The governor is clinically stable and is asymptomatic

New Delhi: Tamil Nadu Governor Banwarilal Purohit tested positive for COVID-19 on Sunday, said a statement from a Chennai hospital.

The governor has been asked to undergo home isolation; he will be monitored by a team of doctors from the hospital. This update came just a few hours after he was taken to the hospital on Sunday morning.

The statement by Kauvery hospital

A statement issued by Kauvery Hospital said that the governor is clinically stable and is asymptomatic as well. He also underwent several other tests and assessments in the hospital during the day.

Purohit was taken to hospital after 87 employees of the Raj Bhavan tested positive for the novel coronavirus. After a few men posted at Raj Bhavan showed some symptoms of the viral infection, testing was done for 147 personnel. Some comprising security and fire service staffers were also found to be positive for COVID-19, a release by Raj Bhavan said.

The development came around the time when Union home minister Amit Shah declared that he tested positive for COVID-19 and admitted to a hospital.
