Nepal to send its controversial revised map to UN, Google and India

New Delhi: By mid-August, the government of Nepal plans to send its recently revised map to the international community, Google and India, said a minister. Indian territories of Kalapani, Limpiyadhura, and Lipulekh will be included in the revised map, the minister added.

Padma Aryal, the minister for land management, cooperatives, and poverty alleviation, in an interview with a leading news daily said that they would be sending this revised map to UN agencies as well. Kathmandu in June had amended its constitution to incorporate the newly revised map into its national emblem. This move was slammed by New Delhi as an “artificial enlargement… not based on historical facts and evidence”.

The ministry has even asked the department of measurement to print 4,000 copies of the updated version of Nepal’s map. This will be in the English language so as to send it to the international community. Up to 25,000 copies have been printed by the department and are also distributed around the nation. People can buy the newly revised map for Nepali Rs 50 and provincial and all other public offices will be given copies free of cost.

Nepal had already released the revised administrative and political map which incorporated Limpiyadhura, Lipulekh, and Kalapani on May 20. However, India said that the move is the opposite of bilateral understanding to solve the boundary issues via diplomatic dialogue. Additionally “such artificial enlargement of territorial claims will not be accepted by India.”
