Imphal: A 20-year-old girl from Chandel district became the latest case of COVID-19 related death in Manipur on Sunday. With this, the total number of casualties due to novel coronavirus in the state has soared to seven.

As per a reliable source, the girl, who was paralysed and bedridden for a long time, passed away due to shock at her temporary residence at Checkon in Imphal East district. Her swab sample taken after she died was found positive on Rapid Antigen Test for COVID-19, the source said.

She was the granddaughter of the 76-year-old man who died at the Catholic Medical Center (CMC) Hospital, Koirengei in Imphal on Thursday night. His sample was also tested positive for the coronavirus after death on Friday.

In the last 24 hours, at least 75 fresh cases have been confirmed as positive for COVID-19 in the state, taking the total number of cases to 2,831, said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.

Of the total positive cases, 1,737 infected persons have recovered and another 1,087 more cases are undergoing treatment for COVID-19 at present.

Among the latest positive confirmed cases, 65 persons are from the general population, including 48 with no travel history and 14 cases belonging to the Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) and they are now being shifted to COVID-19 care facilities for further observation.

Besides the security personnel who were found positive for COVID-19, the fresh cases were reported from the districts of Imphal West (42), Thoubal (9), Kangpokpi (5), Senapati (3), Churachandpur (1) and Chandel (1).

The recovery rate has also increased to 61.07 per cent with 38 more infected persons were recovered and discharged from the hospitals and COVID-19 care centers.
