Agartala: After a Bharatiya Janata Party legislator, an MLA from alliance partner Indigenous Peoples’ Front of Tripura (IPFT), Dhananjoy Tripura, from Raimavalley assembly constituency have tested positive for COVID-19.
Earlier, BJP MLA Ramapada Jamatia tested positive for the coronavirus on July 22. Jamatia along with his wife and two other personal bodyguards had got infected.
Speaking with EastMojo, Dhananjoy said that he had developed symptoms of COVID-19 and was suffering from cold, cough, fever and occasional body aches for the past two days.
“Today, I was tested at Gandacherra sub-divisional hospital through a rapid antigen testing kit. My reports came positive for COVID-19 virus, however my personal bodyguards tested negative for the virus,” he said.
He also said that his family members will be tested by the health department, adding: “I had visited four districts in the last one week for organizational work. I have visited North Tripura, Unakoti, Khowai and Dhalai district. Maybe I was infected during my visit to one of these districts,” Dhananjoy added.
He would be admitted to Sagar Mahal COVID Care Centre by the health department officials, adding that he is doing well and would overcome this disease shortly.
So far, two MLAs — one each from the ruling BJP and IPFT — have tested positive for COVID-19.
Meanwhile, BJP legislator Ramapada Jamatia, his wife and two personal bodyguards tested negative for the virus on Saturday and they would be released in the evening.
In this regard, Jamatia said that he was tested positive for the virus on July 22 and during 10 days of treatment at Udaipur COVID Care Centre their samples were tested which came positive for the first time, while in Saturday’s test, the samples came negative.
