GUWAHATI: Despite the recent announcement of Unlock 3 by the Centre, the government of Assam has decided to continue with its own set of guidelines imposing ban on different activities to put a brake on the spread of the disease.
Among the restrictions in place in the State are 12-hour night curfew, weekend lockdown in all urban areas and ban in inter-district movement of individuals. The restriction in the inter-district movement of people has been relaxed for two days from Thursday, with specific guidelines for movement.
Besides, a few districts have their lockdowns and other restrictions as decided by the local administration.

According to media reports, Assam minister for health and family welfare Himanta Biswa Sarma said that the state government will not implement all guidelines of Unlock 3 at least for the time being.
“We will be following the guidelines specified by the State government at least till August 15. The situation is showing slight signs of improvement. We cannot lose the work done and achieved so far with our restrictions to check the spread of COVID,” Sarma said.
Kamrup (Metro) district also has a number of specific restrictions in place, including rules for opening of shops, etc.

Earlier, minister Sarma held a video-conference with principals, superintendents and doctors of all medical colleges and hospitals of the State for reviewing and firming up the way ahead.
The Union home ministry has already issued new guidelines for opening up more activities in areas outside containment zones. Unlock 3, will come into effect from August 1, 2020, in which there will be a phased re-opening of activities.
The new guidelines, issued by the Centre, have been issued based on feedback received from states, UTs and extensive consultations held with related ministries and departments.
In the new guidelines, night curfew has been removed. It has also allowed yoga institutes and gymnasiums to open among others.
