Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh paid befitting tributes to the three slain Assam Rifles personnel who were killed in an ambush by militant groups in Chandel district recently.
A wreath ceremony in honour of the three martyrs of Assam Rifles was held at Bir Tikendrajit International Airport in Imphal on Friday before taking the mortal remains at their respective places for last rites.
Speaking to media persons, CM Biren Singh while stoutly condemning the attack said that his government will longer tolerate such actions and will definitely retaliate.
“Government will not remain as a silent spectator anymore. We will definitely hunt down the perpetrators and book them, as per the law. These terrorist groups will not be compromised anymore,” Singh said.
Singh also appealed the militant groups operating in and around the region to leave the hostilities and weapons and come out for a political solution.
The chief minister also met the family members of Rifleman Ratan Salam, one of the Assam Rifles personnel from Manipur killed in the attack, and offered his condolences to the bereaved family.
Singh had also assured for assistance to families of martyrs from the state that has lost their lives in the line on duty.
“As we lost a son of Manipur in a cowardly attack by militants in Chandel, the govt of Manipur will take up a necessary arrangement to rehabilitate and provide a quality life for the families of martyrs from Manipur who have served in the military and paramilitary forces,” Singh tweeted.
Three security personnel of 4th Assam Rifles were killed in an ambush by northeast-based militant outfits –ULFA (I), RPF and MNPF- on Wednesday evening at Khongtal village near Indo-Myanmar border in Chandel district.
The three martyred jawans were Havildar Pranay Kalita from Assam, Rifleman Ratan Salam from Manipur and Rifleman Methna Konyak from Nagaland of 4th Assam Rifles.
