Assam: COVID-19 positive rape convict escapes from Kokrajhar hospital
People in Kokrajhar and Chirang districts of the state have expressed fear of mass transmission of COVID-19 after a COVID-19 positive patient, who is also a rape convict, escaped from the isolation ward of Rup Nath Brahma (RNB) Civil Hospital in Kokrajhar district early morning on Wednesday.
The patient, identified as Sukut Murmu alias Sukla (27), hails from Santipara of Dhaligaon in Chirang district. He is a rape convict and was lodged at the District Jail in Kokrajhar in connection with Dhaligaon police station case number 112/20 under section (u/s) 376D/IPC of May 15. READ MORE

Total COVID-19 cases soar to 1,583,793 in India
The total number of coronavirus cases in India reached 1,583,793 on Thursday (July 30), as of 8 am, with the death toll standing at 34,968.
According to the latest updates provided by the Union health ministry, there are 528,242 active cases with 34,968 deaths so far in the country. As many as 1,020,582 patients have been cured or discharged and one has migrated.
