Imphal: At least 31 new cases, including nine persons with no recent travel history, tested positive for the coronavirus in Manipur on Tuesday.
According to additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, nine persons, one from Imphal West and eight from Tamenglong districts- have no significant travel history.
The latest cases are from the districts of Thoubal (10), Tamenglong (8), Churachandpur (8) and Imphal West (5). Samples were tested at the VRDL of RIMS (10), District Hospital Thoubal (4), Churachandpur (8), Tamenglong (8) and mobile testing team of Imphal West (1).
Necessary control measures like contact tracing and containment process are already in place to combat the spread of virus assured the health department.
The total confirmed cases for the coronavirus have soared to 2,317, wherein active and recovered cases are 702 and 1,615, respectively.
The recovery rate has also increased to 69.70 per cent, with 56 more persons recovered from COVID-19. They were discharged from RIMS (4), COVID-19 Care Centers of Meitram (12), Ukhrul (9), Senapati (23), Thoubal (5) and RD Wing Lamphelpat (3) after they were tested negative on RT PCR test.
Earlier, there was a report that one resident at JNIMS Hospital Block-A residence quarter tested positive for CIVID-19. The patient is said to be a nurse working at RIMS Hospital but resided at her husband’s quarter, a JNIMS doctor. Following the case, at least 60 residents of the locality underwent testing as per protocol, and the results are awaited.
The whole residence area has been put under strict observation as part of containment protocol until further notice, said Imphal East deputy commissioner Dr Rangitabali Waikhom.
