Guwahati: As the state battles with the rise in COVID-19 cases, with Kamrup (Metro) registering 295 cases and Kamrup (Rural) 221 cases just on Tuesday, the Assam government has issued new guidelines for passengers arriving from outside the state.
As per the existing protocols, passengers arriving from out of the state are required to undergo institutional or home quarantine for 14 days. However, this has been changed in the new guidelines. It now states that the passenger need to undergo just 10 days, inclusive of days spent on institutional or hotel quarantine as well as home quarantine.

Hence, if a passenger spends the initial four days in a hotel or institutional quarantine, he or she shall have to undergo six days of home quarantine. Similarly, if a passenger directly proceeds for home quarantine he or she needs to complete the entire 10 days at home. This action is mandatory for if the results of the RT-PCR test of such passengers come out to be positive in the interim he or she will be taken to a COVID-19 dedicated medical facility.

The new guidelines also talked about the new protocols for management and discharge of COVID-19 positive cases in Assam. From July 24, there shall be mandatory seven days of home quarantine for discharged patients with active surveillance by the Health Workers.
As of now, the state has detected 1,271 COVID-19 positive cases just on Tuesda, taking the total state tally to 34,947. Out of this 26,618 patients have now recovered and 8,238 remain active. The death toll due to COVID-19 in the state stands at 88.
