Imphal: Manipur continued to witness a spike in COVID-19 cases with 51 more detected on Monday, taking the total confirmed cases to 2,286.
The accumulative active cases are 727 and recovered persons have increased to 1,559.
At least 24 people — 18 from Thoubal, four from Imphal East and one each from Churachandpur and Imphal West districts — with no immediate travel history tested positive for the coronavirus.
Of the 51 new cases, 19 are from Thoubal, 14 from Kangpokpi, nine from Imphal East, seven from Imphal West and two from Churachandpur districts. They were tested at the VRDLs of RIMS (10) and JNIMS (22), and Thoubal (19), said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.
Meanwhile, the recovery rate in the state has increased to 68.19% with 38 more patients recovered in the last 24 hours. They were discharged from JNIMS (8), COVID-19 Care Centers of Meitram (15), Ukhrul (2), Senapati (3), Thoubal (3), Kamjong (3) and RD Wing Lamphel (4) after they were tested negative for RT PCR test.

According to Dr Mangang, the staffer at the chief minister’s secretariat who had tested positive on Saturday was retested and found negative on RT PCR test in the last 24 hours.

The staffer at the CM’s secretariat has a travel history of contact with a positive case during his visit to Senapati District Hospital, he said.
At least 220 people from CM’s secretariat, including security staff, officials and staff posted at COVID-19 Control Room, have been tested and found to be negative.
Also, around 20 media persons who had attended a press conference at CM’s secretariat on July 22 were also tested and found COVID-19 negative, as per sources.
