Kohima: An 82-year-old COVID-19 patient, who was admitted to the COVID-19 hospital in Dimapur with comorbid conditions, passed away on Sunday. Earlier, four patients had tested positive for COVID-19 after death. The deceased was critical in ICU on ventilator.

The patient tested positive for COVID-19 on both TrueNat and RT-PCR tests on July 18 and was admitted at the ICU in the COVID-19 hospital in Dimapur on July 19 at 12:40 pm. The patient was referred from Eden Medical centre in Dimapur.

As reported earlier, the patient had comorbid conditions and is a diabetic with past history of open heart surgery and pulmonary tuberculosis. The patient was treated on July 16 at Shamrock Hospital and at Nikos Hospital and Eden Medical Centre on July 17.

The patient had a typical COVID lung picture with respiratory distress and was on ventilator support. The patient was critical with unstable blood pressure.

As reported earlier, the patient was monitored by a medical team comprising of one doctor, two nurses and two attendants on an eight-hourly rotation basis.

Although the RT-PCR tests of the other four deceased were declared after their death, the 82-year-old man tested positive on the RT-PCR test before death. All five deceased persons who tested positive for COVID-19 were from Dimapur.

While the other four cases were mentioned in the daily bulletin provided by the health & family welfare department citing it to be under investigation, a health official mentioned that the fifth death will be reported in the next update as the daily bulletin update “freezes” by 3 pm.
