Imphal: An accident patient reportedly tested positive for COVID-19 at Shija Hospital in Imphal on Sunday, the first case from the hospital in Manipur. The patient is said to be the cousin brother of Manipur health minister L Jayantakumar Singh.
The patient was brought in to the hospital on Friday after he accidentally fell off from a bicycle and tested positive during the screening as part of the standard pre-operative procedures.
As per reports, the patient has been shifted to the isolation ward to RIMS for further observation. However, the source of infection of the patient is yet to be known by the time of filing this report.
“During this crucial fight against the COVID-19 pandemic, one of the cousins has been tested positive. As a precautionary measure, I called and gathered all my immediate office staff, family members and everyone related for an immediate COVID-19 test,” said the minister.
Out of the family members and staff who tested for the coronavirus, two of the patient’s primary contacts turned out to be positive cases. Both reside at the minister’s residence at Pishumthong in Imphal.
As per the minister, his residence area at Pishumthong will be declared a containment zone, as per the guidelines.
“There is nothing to be panic or anxious. With the full corporation, understanding and coordination, we can unitedly fight against the coronavirus pandemic,” added Jayantakumar.
Moreover, as per reports, the fourth floor of the hospital has been sealed. However, Shija will continue to open both routine and emergency OPD and operations.
All patients attending Shija Emergency department will be tested for COVID-19 with Rapid Antigen test, however, the hospital cannot close as hundreds of patients, including critically ill patients and maintenance dialysis is undergoing treatment, it said.
