Imphal: In a major breakthrough on war against drugs, a team of special cell of Delhi Police busted an international drug cartel in the national capital and recovered at least 10 kg of high-grade heroin worth over Rs 40 crore on Friday.
Two individuals from Manipur, suspected to be key members of a drug trafficking ring, have been arrested by the Delhi Police led by inspector Purant Pant under the supervision of ACP Jasbir Singh, said officials.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Md Ikbal Khan, 28, a resident of Moirang in Bishnupur district, and Md Ishak, 27, a resident of Lilong in Thoubal district, Manipur.
On Saturday, chief minister N Biren Singh tweeted, “Yet another huge success of our #WarOnDrugs! Congratulations to the team of Special Cell/Northern Range who has busted an international drug cartel by arresting two dependable key members/carriers from Manipur with 10 kg of high-grade heroin worth more than Rs 40 crores.”

Besides the huge cache of drugs, the team also recovered three mobile phones, SIM cards used in the drug trafficking activities and a vehicle used for transportation.
According to the official report, the flow of heroin consignments of the drug cartel is from Myanmar to Manipur. Later, the contraband items are transported through Guwahati, Siliguri, Darjeeling, Malda, UP-west and finally to Delhi.
