Guwahati: Over 28 lakh people in 26 districts of Assam have been affected due to severe floods. The flood-related death toll has now reached 93 after four people died in Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Morigaon and Golaghat districts on Thursday.
Goalpara district has been the worst hit with almost 4.70 lakh people impacted by the floods.
According to an Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA) bulletin, the floods triggered by incessant rains have hit 2,634 villages and localities, and affected 1,19,435.93 hectares of crops.
In Kaziranga National Park, 123 wild animals, including 12 rhinos, have died due to flood, and 150 animals have been rescued, as reported by the DFP Eastern Assam Wildlife division.
Meanwhile, 47,213 are sheltered in 286 relief camps across the state. In the past 24 hours, 88 boats have been deployed and evacuated 1,102 people.
The water level of Brahmaputra river and its tributaries have been increasing. As per the latest ASDMA update, it is flowing above the danger level in Jorhat, Sonitpur, Kamrup metro, Goalpara, Dhubri.
Also Dhansiri river is flowing above the danger level in Golaghat; Jia Bharali in Sonitpur; Kopili in Nagaon; Beki in Barpeta; Kushiyara in Karimganj; and Sankosh in Dhubri.
