Agartala: As the number of novel coronavirus cases spikes in the state, Ramapada Jamatia has become the first legislator to have tested positive for COVID-19 on Wednesday.
Jamatia, who is a BJP MLA, represents Bagma assembly constituency and also holds the post of Pradesh BJP vice-president.
Along with Jamatia, his wife and two personal guards (PG) have also tested positive for the virus.
Speaking with EastMojo, Jamatia said that on Wednesday he was tested for COVID-19 at Atharabolo primary health centre using the point antigen test kit. “I was tested positive for the virus. My wife and two other personal guards also tested positive for the virus. We have been put in Udaipur COVID Care Center for treatment,” Jamatia said.
He also said that after he developed cold and cough he decided to get tested for the virus.
Meanwhile, the health department has started tracing his contacts. It is also learnt that in the last few days he had remained present in a number of joining programmes of BJP across the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council.
The state’s COVID tally stands at 3,345 and active cases are now at 1,397. While 1,926 patients have recovered, eight persons have succumbed to the virus so far.
