Guwahati: In a major attempt to ramp up COVID-19 testing, Assam government inaugurated two ICMR approved labs in Guwahati on Wednesday. With this, the total number of labs available for testing in Assam increases to 15.
First, a new lab was launched at State Cancer Institute of Gauhati Medical College, Guwahati. Informing about this, state health minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma tweeted, “#COVID19 has given us an opportunity to be more alert, and prepared for future. I am glad out teams worked overtime to put the best in place. At State Cancer Institute of Gauhati Medical College I launched Assam’s 14th
@ICMRDELHI approved lab, which bolsters our testing ability.”
Following which, a Molecular Virology Laboratory, the 15th lab in the state was inaugurated at Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute.
Himanta tweeted, “Going ahead, our testing readiness and network of laboratories will determine our ability to contain a pandemic. Continuing our efforts to step up our infra, today I inaugurated Molecular Virology Laboratory at Dr B Borooah Cancer Institute. This is Assam’s 15th lab. Pride!”
While number of COVID-19 cases continue to rise in the state, new testing labs will definitely come in handy. Assam has conducted almost 7 lakh tests so far, and is working towards rapidly increasing its testing capacity.
The state’s total reported case stands at 26,772 of which 18,033 have been discharged, 8,672 active, 64 deaths and 3 migrated to other states.
