Guwahati: Assam floods claimed one more life on Monday, taking the total number of deaths to 85. The deceased was a resident of Sonapur in Kamrup metro district, near Guwahati.
According to Assam State Disaster Management Authority (ASDMA), this year’s total death toll stands at 111 with 85 killed in floods and 26 due to landslides.
Meanwhile, 24,30,502 people are affected from the yearly saga of waters in 24 districts across the state.
Daily report by ASDMA said that six rivers in the state are flowing above the danger mark. Brahmaputra river is flowing above the danger line in Dibrugarh, Jorhat, Sonitpur, Goalpara and Dhubri; Dhansiri in Numaligarh; Jia Bharali in Sonitpur; Kopili in Nagaon, Beki in Barpeta and Kushiyara in Karimganj.
Across the state, 48,197 people are sheltered in 276 relief camps, said the report. In the last 24 hours, 125 boats were deployed and 291 persons were evacuated.
