Guwahati: Altogether 1,018 fresh COVID-19 cases were reported from Assam on Sunday, out of which 577 are from Guwahati alone.

Health and family welfare minister of the state Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to state, “Alert ~ 1018 new #COVID19 ve+ patients reported in Assam today, with 577 cases from Guwahati City alone.

Important to follow containment measures.

Active cases 7916

Deaths 57

Moreover, there were four more deaths related to COVID-19 just on Sunday. Pramod Chandra Sarma (62) and Binapani Das (78) from Kamrup Metro, S K Wagle (46) from Cachar and Prasanta Saikia (74) from Tinsukia succumbed to COVID-19.

However, on a positive note, a total of 858 patients were discharged from various hospitals across the state on Sunday. Stating that the state’s recovery rate to be “impressive” Sarma wrote, “Discharge Alert

Additionally, there are certain relaxation norms updated in the ongoing Kamrup (Metro) lockdown which will be into effect from Monday.

This includes yet another update which states that the availability of the COVID-19 result report is not mandatory for shopkeepers, employees, delivery persons, etc., to open shops and other permitted establishment. However, testing teams are deployed in and around Kamrup (M) and can visit any shops or establishment to conduct a Rapid Antigen Test. Hence the owner and the staff of the management are required to extend full cooperation for the public good.

These tests are also not only limited to the city of Kamrup (M) as Sarma also notified about the conduction of over 18,000 tests in the last 24 hours alone.

India however, as a whole is witnessing a fall in the COVID-19 case fatality rate. In a statement issued by the Union health ministry, it stated that the combined efforts of the Centre and state/UT governments on proper and efficient medical management of COVID-19 pandemic have ensured India’s case fatality rate to fall below 2.5% for the first time. “India has one of the lowest fatality rates in the world,” the ministry added.
