Imphal: Senior IPS officer and ADGP (law & order) Arvind Kumar, who allegedly shot himself with his service revolver in Manipur on Saturday afternoon, was flown in an air ambulance around 5 pm on Sunday to AIIMS in New Delhi for further treatment, said reports.

Earlier in the day, after visiting Kumar at Raj Medicity hospital in Imphal, chief minister N Biren Singh said that the senior officer’s health condition is stable. However, he will be taken to the national capital for further treatment, he added.

“Currently, his condition is stable and out of danger. May good health envelop him; I wish him a speedy recovery,“ Singh tweeted.

According to CM Singh, a team of highly skilled doctors at Raj Medicity briefed him about the condition of Kumar who was critically injured in the unfortunate incident.

Kumar is a 1992-batch IPS officer of the Manipur cadre, said reports.

The exact cause of the incident is yet to known and an investigation is on to ascertain as to why the high-ranking police officer took the step, as per official report.

Soon after the report of the incident, top police officers and state officials, including chief secretary J Suresh Babu and director general of police LM Khaute, rushed to the hospital, reports said.
