Agartala: Tripura on Saturday registered two more COVID-19 related deaths as two persons, aged 73 years and 62 years, succumbed to the virus, taking the total death tally in the state to five so far.

The two persons who died were admitted in COVID-19 hospital in Agartala Government Medical College (AGMC) on July 16 and 17, respectively. The 72-year-old is the first woman to have died due to the novel coronavirus.

Speaking with reporters, law minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the 72-year-old was from Birchandra Manu and she had diabetes and hypertension.

“The 72-year-old was having diabetes and hypertension and was first admitted in Baikhora primary health centre. From there she was taken to Santirbazar district hospital on July 13 and from there she was sent to Udaipur district hospital. On Friday she was referred to AGMC hospital in the evening and today she died at 1:05 pm,“ Nath said.

He also said that another 62-year-old from Salema was taken to COVID Care Centre in Dhalai district where he tested positive for the virus with an antigen kit test.

“He was a patient of ‘Pyriform fossa’ and was taken to AGMC on July 16 and today he succumbed to the virus at 3:40 pm in AGMC hospital,” Nath added.

Speaking further he said that the state has so far reported five COVID-19 related deaths since June 9.

Tripura registered its first COVID-19 death on June 9, second on June 11, third on July 15 and on July 18 two fresh cases. Of the total, four were male patients, one was female. All of them were admitted in Govind Ballabh Pant Hospital or (AGMC) COVID-19 hospital.

“All the patients who have died so far due to the virus had other comorbidity due to which they became the victims of the virus,” Nath said.

“Tripura has collected 1,04,343 samples out of which 1,01,926 samples have been tested, among which 2498 tested positive. The positivity rate stands at 2.45 percent and the test per million rate at 25,497 samples per million, while the recovery rate stands at 71.20 percent, Nath said.

The state tally of confirmed cases now stands at 2,498, with 743 active cases and 1,735 recovered cases. Presently, 678 persons are undergoing treatment in different COVID care centres in the state, while 228 persons are in facility quarantined and 4,676 in home quarantine.
