Kaziranga: Even though the water level at the Kaziranga National Park (KNP) in Assam has been gradually receding in the last 48 hours, carcasses of various wild animals, including five rhinos, have been recovered in the park.
Sources in the park informed that out of the five carcasses of the rhinos recovered, four died due to drowning during the current wave of flood in the national park.

Meanwhile, the two-year-old Royal Bengal tigress which was rescued from Bagmari area by a joint team of Kaziranga National Park authority and the Centre for Wildlife Rehabilitation and Conservation (CWRC) has been released into the wild in Haldhibari area near Kohora on Friday.
Sources further said that almost 85% of the total park is still under water. Two buffaloes in the park have died. According to reports, one buffalo died due to drowning and the other met with natural death. Altogether, 68 hog deer have died along with two swamp deer during the current of flood in Kaziranga.

Meanwhile, in Kaziranga National Park, 86 animals have died due to the floods, and 125 animals have been rescued so far. Of the 223 camps, 80 camps are affected and six camps have been vacated, as reported by the DFO Eastern Assam Wildlife division.
Time cards have been issued to the vehicles plying on NH-37 for the safety of wild animals; as they have started moving towards higher grounds.
Forest guards have intesified patrolling on the highway to check poaching and capture of wild animals for illegal trade.
