New Delhi: With the thirst for achieving faster and faster air speeds to minimise the time of travel from one corner of the planet to another, the new XB-1, a new version of the famed Concorde aircraft, will be unveiled to the world on October 7. The 55-seater aircraft from Boom Overture is a cutting-edge piece of technology that could make a mark for ultra-fast supersonic air travel.

The XB-1 supersonic jet

The Denver-based Boom Technology has raised $141 million to design and manufacture the XB-1 supersonic jet. The company so far has already started building the aircraft and has completed landing gear tests.

The XB-1 is capable of achieving a top speed of Mach 2.2

According to reports, the XB-1 aircraft is capable of achieving a top speed of more than 2700 kmph or Mach 2.2.

However, the aircraft will only have one pilot and will undergo rigorous testing at California’s Mojave Air and Space Port in 2021. The aircraft will be manned by an experienced US Air Force recruit who will carry out the tests.

Boom Technology in its statement said “With XB-1, we’re demonstrating that we are prepared to bring back supersonic. We’re ensuring that the supersonic future is safe and environmentally, and economically sustainable. We’ve learned that the demand for supersonic has grown even faster than we anticipated.”

The XB-1 is being tainted as Concorde 2.0

As per latest reports, Richard Branson and Japan Airlines have already invested in the firm and are looking to induce the XB-1 into their fleet in the future. Both companies have also placed orders for a total of 30 aircraft.
