Agartala: Tripura police and civil administration collected over Rs 1.13 crore from people violating COVID-19 protocols and other restrictions imposed amidst the pandemic outbreak.
Law minister Ratan Lal Nath said that the state government collected fines from the eight districts of the state.

“During joint enforcement from May 26 to July 12, total Rs 68.28 lakh fine money was collected from across the state for not wearing masks. The civil administration collected Rs 3.28 lakh fine, while Tripura police collected Rs 65 lakh for not wearing face masks”, Nath said.
He also said that even after repetitive appeal from the state government, people we have seen violating the lockdown protocols.

“A section of people do not adhere to the social distancing protocol. Unless people are not aware of the outbreak of COVID-19 the government cannot do enough to control the spread of the virus”, Nath added.

Speaking further he said the police have also collected Rs 3.6 lakh for not maintaining social distancing by passengers in vehicles.
“Rs 9.64 lakh was collected for “A section of people do not adhere to the social distancing protocol. Unless people are not aware about the outbreak of COVID-19 the government cannot do enough to control the spread of the virus”, Nath added.
Speaking further he said the police have also collected Rs 3.6 lakh for not maintaining social distancing by passengers in vehicles.
“For overloading Rs 9.64 lakh was collected, Rs 1.22 lakh for speeding, Rs 77 thousand for driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs, Rs 59 thousand for using mobile phones while driving and Rs 13.6 lakh for not wearing helmets”, Nath said.

He also said that an important meeting of the state government is going to decide on the next course of action. The spread of coronavirus cannot be taken lightly.
Tripura government had announced to impose a fine of Rs 100 for first offence and Rs 200 for second offence for not wearing face masks. However, later the amount was revised to Rs 20 and Rs 400 respectively.
