Shillong: Meghalaya on Saturday recorded the highest single-day spike with 76 more new cases of COVID-19 reported in the state.

With the new cases, the total number of active cases has now shot up to 215. However, the details of the 76 fresh cases are yet to be known.

Taking to Twitter, Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma announced the development: “76 more individuals have tested positive for #COVID19 in Meghalaya. Total Active- 215 Total Recovered- 45.”

Earlier, due to spike of COVID-19 cases in the BSF campus at Umpling in Shillong, the area was declared a containment area. The government has also directed the health officials to begin random testing in neighbouring areas of Umpling – Rynjah-Umpling, Nongmensong and Mawpat.

The last recovery case was reported on July 8, when two people from South West Garo Hills were discharged.
