Kohima: In a letter addressed to the Home Commissioner, the deputy commissioner of Kohima, Gregory Thejawelie, proposed for total lockdown in Kohima municipal areas for an “initial period of one week for consideration”.
The deputy commissioner mentioned that the total lockdown within Kohima municipal areas is proposed: to enhance the ongoing active surveillance; for early detection of suspected cases; to break the chain of transmission, and further to prevent the spread of diseases to new areas.
“Due to the imposition of lockdown, the economic activities in the district may be hampered and may cause inconvenience to the general public in procuring essential commodities, however, it will serve the larger interest of the district in containing the disease,” the letter said.
Based on the facts, it said that the district administration has “felt necessary that total lockdown in Kohima municipal areas is implemented. The matter is put up to the authority for consideration and further necessary direction,” the letter added.
As reported earlier, the state government has directed the department of health and family welfare to assess if the state “qualifies” for a total lockdown. In this regard, a health official informed that the health department would be submitting its recommendations to the High Powered Committee (HPC) during a meeting which is likely to be held on Friday.
So far, 16 frontline workers have tested positive for COVID-19, out of the total of 673 positive cases detected in the state. The source also said that “aggressive contact tracing” is being conducted.
Meanwhile, an order from the Kohima deputy commissioner said that the Upper PWD colony Kohima Municipal Ward No 11 is no longer a containment zone.
The order said that all primary and secondary contacts of COVID-19 positive patient were tested for COVID-19 and found to be negative.
