Guwahati: In a unique display of thanking the frontline workers and to encourage the citizens to continue their battle against the COVID-19 pandemic, South Korea government used 300 drones for a spectacular light show.
In the evening sky over the Han River in Seoul, these 300 drones took off in the air in a military-like formation on Saturday, then arranged themselves to form images of masks, hand-washing, and social distancing.

The show also showcased doctors in protective gear and messages of support. This includes a flashing thumbs-up, “#ThanksToChallange” written above a hand, all about a social media campaign that encourages people to express their gratitude to the health workers in the frontline.
South Korea’s Ministry of land infrastructure and transport coordinated the 300 drones light show for 10 minutes in perfect synchronicity. Moreover, to avoid a huge gathering of people to watch the mesmerising spectacle, the light show was not advertised.

These drones each weighed 900 grams and employed real-time kinematic (RTK) satellite positioning and also added antennae to increase the accuracy as stated by the Koran Institute of Aviation Safety Technology. They headed the entire project.
Though South Korea was praised for its quick containment of the initial outbreak of the virus it has recently been experiencing sporadic cases. This includes door-to-door sales practices and small gatherings at religious facilities.

The country as of now has a total of 13,293 COVID-19 cases out of which 12,019 have recovered so far and the death toll stands at 287.
