Guwahati: A 30-year-old succumbed to COVID-19 in Assam on Wednesday morning, making it the 5th COVID related fatality reported in a single day, and the 7th death in 24 hours. With this, Assam’s death toll stands at 21.
The deceased has been identified as Jitendra Prasad (30) from Majbat, Udalguri. He was admitted to Tezpur Medical College on Tuesday.
Announcing this on Twitter, state health and family welfare minister Dr Himanta Biswa Sarma wrote, “Condolences.
Sad to inform that Jitendra Prasad (30) from Majbat, Udalguri admitted on July 7 at Tezpur Medical College, with features of Septicaemia in shock with history of herbal medication, became victim of #COVID19.
So sad to see young lives being lost!”
In the wee hours today, 4 more COVID related deaths were reported. The deceased have been identified as Safikul Rahman (60) of Hidayatpur, Guwahati; Romoni Mazumdar (60) of Patacharkuchi, Barpeta; Utpal Kumar Chaliha (75) of Kahilipara, Dispur; and Hari Prasad Mandal (68) of Lalganesh, Guwahati.
Altogether 814 new COVID-19 cases were detected in Assam till 11.40 pm on Tuesday. Out of this, 588 cases are from Guwahati city.
According to the health minister’s last update, excluding the 5 deaths reported today, Assam reported total 13,336 cases of which 8329 are discharged, 4988 are active cases, 16 deaths and 3 migrated to other states.
