Kohima: With 12 more persons testing positive for COVID-19 on Sunday evening, the total number of positive cases in Nagaland spiked to 590. In total, 27 fresh cases of COVID-19 were reported on Sunday.
Earlier on Sunday morning, 15 new cases of COVID-19 were reported taking the state’s total to 578. With the addition of 12 new cases, the total spiked to 590.
Three more persons have also recovered from COVID-19 on Sunday evening. The total number of active cases now stands at 359, and the number of recovered cases increased to 231. No COVID-19 related death has been reported in the state so far.
Principal Secretary Home Abhijit Sinha informed that all positive persons are receiving medical care at designated COVID-19 Hospitals. As per the severity of symptoms, 358 active cases are asymptomatic, and one active case is in the mild category.
A total of 13,805 samples have been tested, and the results of 12,819 samples have been received. Out of the total of 13, 805 samples, 8, 466 samples have been tested at the BSL-3 lab at the Naga Hospital Authority Kohima (NHAK), out of which 451 samples tested positive. At the BSL-2 lab at CIHSR, Dimapur, 550 samples have been tested, out of which 12 tested positive.
A total of 7,192 samples were tested by Truenat, out of which 207 samples tested positive and sent for confirmation by RT-PCR. Further 6, 835 samples have tested negative. A total of 3,968 persons are presently under Facility Quarantine.
In a press conference on Sunday, principal director of health and family welfare Dr Vizolie Suokhrie informed that there are no sample backlogs at BSL-3 in Kohima for the past two days and also in Dimapur.
Dr Suokhrie informed that with 29 TrueNat machines in the state, Nagaland has the maximum number of TrueNat devices in the state with a testing capacity of 800 samples. Although the testing capacity has increased, he said that there are no adequate samples to be sent for testing in some districts.
