Four jawans have returned to the state from Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya

Aizawl: Four more Border Security Force (BSF) jawans and a cook at BSF camp in south Mizoram’s Lunglei district have tested positive for Covid-19, taking the state’s tally to 191, an official of state health department said on Monday.

The official said that at least 25 samples were tested at Lunglei on Sunday, of which four BSF jawans and a cook at BSF camp in Vanhne, about 20 km from Lunglei town, were found infected with the deadly disease.

He said that the four jawans have returned to the state from Kerala, Madhya Pradesh, Assam and Meghalaya while the cook has no travel history.

The jawans have been placed under quarantine at a quarantine facility at Vanhne since their arrival in the state, he said.

The new infected patients, aged between 27 and 52 years, are asymptomatic and are out of danger, the official said.

Earlier on Saturday, two BSF jawans from Vanhne camp tested positive for novel coronavirus.

The two jawans, aged aged 50 and 53 years, have returned from Kerala recently, the official said.

With the newly five infected patients, at least seven people from BSF camp at Vanhne have tested positive for Covid-19, he said.

Mizoram has reported at least 191 Covid-19 cases, of which 58 are active patients while 133 people have already recovered.

According to health department, Lunglei district continued to report the highest cases with 54, followed by Aizawl district with 53.

Siaha district has reported 22 cases, Mamit district-20, Lawngtlai district-12, Kolasib district- 11, Champhai district- 10, Serchhip, Saitual and Khawzawl districts have reported three cases each while Hnahthial has not reported any Covid-19 case till date, the department said.

All the Covid-19 infected patients in Kolasib, Serchhip, Khawzawl and Saitual districts have already recovered.
