Guwahati: After the government of Assam announced some relaxation on the ongoing 14-day lockdown in Kamrup (Metro) district on Saturday, a revised order has now been issued in view of the sudden rise in COVID-19 cases in Guwahati.
On Saturday, Assam witnessed the highest single-day spike in COVID-19 cases amounting to 1,202 cases, out of which 777 were reported from the city of Guwahati alone.
Keeping this in mind, Assam’s chief secretary Kumar Sanjay Krishna in a Twitter post revealed the revised relaxation norms.
“Keeping the Public Convenience in view the #Lockdown orders issued on 4th July 2020 has been revised in Kamrup Metropolitan District.Peole are requested to strictly maintain all COVID19 protocols as there has been a significant spike in positive cases in Guwahati. @PTI_News,“ he tweeted.
According to the revamped rules, all stand-alone grocery shops are allowed to operate between 11 am and 4 pm from Monday to Friday (July 6 to July 10).
However, it is imperative that shopkeepers and customers will have to wear masks and hand gloves and maintain strict social distancing. Also, the responsibility of strict maintenance of social distancing norms will remain on the shop owner and the failure to do so will amount to closure of the defaulting shops. Additionally, the maintenance of price line and prevention of artificial shortage will be the responsibility of shop keepers and Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs Department.
However, whole-sellers of grocery items are allowed to replenish stocks of retailers on Sunday (July 5) and Tuesday (July 7) between 12:00 noon and 6 pm.
Meanwhile, house-to-house sale of fruits and vegetables shall be allowed between 8 am and 2 pm on Monday and Wednesday. However, no roadside vending of any fruit, vegetable, fish, etc will be allowed.
Assam as of now has recorded over 11,000 COVID-19 positive patients, including 4,241 active cases, 6,743 discharged and 14 deaths.
