Kohima: Following the cabinet meeting on Friday, the state government has approved the setting up of the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB), a jubilant Naga Students’ Federation (NSF) informed.
“The Nagaland State Government led by Hon’ble Chief Minister Eno. Nephiu Rio and his esteemed Council of Ministers has finally approved to set up the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB), thus, realizing the long cherished dream of thousands of aspiring students in the state to equal job opportunity and meritocracy in the process of selection,” an update from the federation’s media cell said.
The federation recalled saying: “The department of Public & Administrative Reform (P&AR), Govt of Nagaland first forwarded it’s recommendation on Nagaland Staff Selection Board (NSSB) to the state Cabinet Council in the year 1995 followed by ACAUT and PSAN, however, due to the weak political will of the time, the same could not be materialized”.
According to the NSF, the journey of the NSSB, since inception, has been a difficult path filled with many challenges and disagreements along the way. It said that through the collective efforts of all the past leaders and the present, the aspirant students’ community, the concerned citizens and with the sincere commitment and sheer political will of the present state government, the “hard labor has come fruition today”.
“It may be noted that, it is not the final blow that breaks a rock, but all the blows that had gone before the last, and in this light, the Federation recalls and acknowledgments all men and women who have shouldered this noble responsibility in the past by carrying forward the aspiration and our collective dream of a future built upon the foundation of equality and meritocracy,” the statement added.
It also conveyed its warm gratitude to the state government for its “genuine concern towards the students’ community and the youths, having embarked upon a historic crossroad” for the state and further expressed optimism that the Nagaland Staff Selection Board (SSB) will be implemented in letter and in spirit.
