Guwahati: As part of his initiative to keep up the morale of doctors, health workers and security forces during this time of global pandemic, Assam chief minister Sarbananda Sonowal made a surprise visit at Zoo Road Tinali in Guwahati on Wednesday night and interacted with the police personnel on duty.
Thanking the security forces for their contribution in tackling the global menace, Sonowal urged people to maintain social distancing and other COVID-19 protocols.
“Our security forces are playing a significant role in keeping the public safe, as our battle against #COVID19 reaches another critical phase in Assam. Interacted with on-duty @assampolice personnel at Zoo Road & thanked them for their selfless service. They are our true heroes,” Sonowal said on Twitter.
Urging people to be careful in fight against the menace, Sonowal said, “I urge the people of Assam to be extremely careful in this fight against #COVID19. Do not go out unless absolutely necessary, follow official guidelines, wear a mask and maintain social distancing at all times.”
Meanwhile, following the increasing number of COVID-19 positive cases in the last couple of weeks in and around Guwahati, the Centre has expressed concern. It has asked the state government to change its testing pattern and conduct about 10,000 tests in Guwahati every day.
Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR) observed that a Delhi-Mumbai like pattern in Guwahati in the last four to five days. Assam health minister Himanta Biswa Sarma said, “Union home minister Amit Shah spoke to me on Tuesday over telephone expressing concern at the situation in Guwahati. ICMR has observed a Delhi-Mumbai like pattern in Guwahati in the last four/ five days. The Union home minister, DG, ICMR and union health secretary held a separate meeting on Tuesday on the situation in Guwahati. As a follow-up, DG, ICMR Wednesday held a video conference with the state’s principal secretary.”
