Guwahati: Over nine lakh people have been affected and two persons, one each from Dhemaji and Udalguri districts, have died in the second wave of flood in the last 24 hours in Assam.
Official sources informed that altogether 23 districts – Dhemaji, Lakhimpur, Biswanath, Udalguri, Darrang, Nalbari, Barpeta, Bongaigaon, Kokrajhar, Dhubri, South Salamara, Goalpara, Kamrup, Morigaon, Hojai, Nagaon, Golaghat, Jorhat, Majuli, Sivasagar, Dibrugarh, Tinsukia and West Karbi Anglong – are reeling under flood affecting 9,26,059 people. Among them, 27,308 are taking shelter in 193 relief camps.

A total of 1,35,415 people have been affected in 395 villages of Barpeta district. Across the State, the flood has affected 2,071 villages and submerged 68,806.73 hectares of cropland.
Floodwater also affected 5,86,407 big animals, 3,08,866 small animals and 6,32,559 poultry. Following incessant rainfall in many parts of the State, the Brahmaputra in Jorhat, Sonitpur, Kamrup (Metro), Goalpara and Dhubri, the Burhidehing in Dibrugarh, the Dhansiri in Golaghat, the Jia Bharali in Sonitpur, the Kopili in Nagaon, the Puthimari in Kamrup, the Pagladiya in Nalbari, the Manas and Beki in Barpeta and the Sonkosh in Dhubri were flowing above the danger level.

Flood has also damaged a number of embankments in Lakhimpur, Dibrugarh, Barpeta, Udalguri, Kamrup, Dhubri, Majuli and Kokrajhar districts along with a number of roads in Dhemaji, Majuli, Barpeta, Udalguri, Biswanath, Kokrajhar, Tinsukia, Jorhat, Dhubri, Morigaon and Hojai districts in the past 24 hours.
Incidents of flood-triggered erosion have also been reported from Biswanath district.

In all, 182 villages of the district have been affected by floods.
