Imphal: Manipur chief minister N Biren Singh on Sunday announced for a lockdown extension for another 15 days from July 1 to 15 in view of the rapid rise of COVID-19 positive cases in the state.
Considering the hardships faced by the public, especially those people in remote areas during the lockdown, inter-district bus services will be resumed but with proper preventive measures and guidelines. However, no other public transportation will be allowed to operate during this period.
At present, the state has witnessed a total of 1,095 COVID-19 cases , of which 660 are active cases while 432 persons have recovered from the virus.
Briefing to media persons, the CM said that persons infected with the virus are mostly returnees from other states, except the seven frontline workers, including two medical officers from Bishnupur district hospital.

Out of the total number of positive cases, 621 persons are Delhi/NCR returnees, 155 are Mumbai returnees and 131 from Chennai, Singh said.
Singh also said that around 50,000 samples have been conducted for test so far and with the given number of positive cases in the state, the positivity rate is only 2.31%.
With an increasing influx of stranded citizens from metro cities returning home, the state government has also put on efforts and come up with more COVID-19 care facilities to accommodate fresh cases in different districts with additional around 750 beds capacity in total, Singh informed.
Currently, there are at least 1,000 beds functioning at various COVID-19 care facilities, including RIMS and JNIMS.

A total of 130 quarantine centres at different districts are under containment zones as on June 28 after inmates were found tested positive for the virus. However, with proper control measures and strict guidelines, slowly these centres will be unleashed from its high risk zones, Singh said.
Singh further stated that the state has intensified its testing capacity up to 2,600 samples in an average per day; with this, the backlog has been totally cleared.
“With the upgradation of testing kits, we are now able to test each samples collected from the inmates within 24 hours,” he said.
