Imphal: At least 93 persons, all returnees from other states, on Sunday tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur. The fresh cases tested in the last 24 hours include 56 men and 37 women, respectively, said additional health director Dr K Sahseekumar Mangang.
Also, another 23 persons who were earlier infected with the virus, have been recovered and discharged from various COVID-19 care facilities after they tested negative on RT -PCR test.
The total number of positive cases has now shot up to 1,185, including 730 active cases.
The number of recovered patients has also increased to 455, taking the recovery rate to 38.39%, said Dr Mangang.
Out of the 93 fresh cases, Ukhrul recorded the highest number with 25, followed by Kamjong with 21 and Tamenglong with 14. Also, another 13 cases from Kakching, 10 from Churachandpur, six from Senapati, two from Imphal East and one each from Imphal West and Noney districts, respectively, were reported.
They are now being shifted to COVID-19 care facilities for further examination.
Meanwhile, necessary preventive control measures like contact tracing and containment process are in place to contain further spread and avoid community transmission in the state.
According to Dr Mangang, 20-25% of people who have completed COVID-19 treatment or quarantine period may suffer from social stigma.
Giving assurance to the public and to restraint from such act, Dr Mangang stated that recovered persons or those completed quarantine period are not source of COVID-19 transmission to others and they must given support and should not be stigmatised.
Isolation and loneliness during quarantine can assert long lasting negative consequences on physical and mental well being resulting to depressive symptoms, lower immunity and impaired executive functions, etc.
In order to address and assist those people in distress, the state has set up a 24X7 helpline number 1800-345-3818 for psychological help and counselling, it said.
