Guwahati: Uninterrupted rains in Guwahati city in Assam over the past week have triggered multiple landslides in the regaion. One such landslide occurred on Sunday morning in Kharguli Hills of the city, killing a girl.
According to reports, the girl, 21, identified as Priyanka Boro, was sleeping on the floor of her house when a portion of the hills fell in the premises of her residence. She succumbed to her injuries.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Kamrup (Metro) district administration issued an appeal to the residents in landslide prone areas to vacate their houses and shift to safer places till the monsoon season is over for their own safety.
Also, landsliding at the backside part of Raj Bhavan at Kharguli has made the wall of the complex very vulnerbale.
“…It may fall at any time and may cause damage to the lives and properties of the patients, doctors, paramedical staff of Borthakur Clinic & Hospital which is situated just below Rajbhawan,” read an order from the office of Kamrup (M) DC.
In the view of their safety, the order directed the proprietor of Borthakur Clinic to vacate the hospital building immediately, and asked to shift patients under treatment to nearby hospitals.
