Imphal: Another 19 returnees on Friday tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur, taking the total number of cases to 1,075, including 682 active cases.

Of the latest 19 cases, while 15 samples were tested at the Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratory (VRDL) at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), the other four at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).

Meanwhile, 39 persons undergoing treatment have recovered and discharged from the hospitals after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test, as per an official report.

The total recovered cases in Manipur has gone up to 393, with the recovery rate at 36.55 per cent, said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.

Of the 19 persons who tested positive in the last 24 hours, nine are from Thoubal, another five from Ukhrul, three more from Churachandpur and one each from Senapati and Kamjong districts.

They are now being shifted to the COVID-19 Care facilities, including JNIMS and UNACCO School COVID-19 Care in Imphal for further treatment.

Moreover, preventive measures like contact tracing and containment process are underway to check any further escalation of the virus in the state.
