Guwahati: Two days after imposing lockdown in 11 wards of Guwahati Municipal Corporation (GMC) area, Assam government has now launched a unique initiative to set up Covid Counselling Centres in all the 31 wards.
This initiative comes following the rising number of COVID-19 cases in Guwahati without any travel history.

With the help of these facilities, residents of the city can voluntarily come forward and get a COVID-19 test done. Health and family welfare minister, Himanta Biswa Sarma took to Twitter to voice out his opinion regarding this new initiative. He wrote, “We have activated all 31 Covid Counselling Centres in every ward of Guwahati Municipal Corporation. I urge citizens of Guwahati to use these facilities and come forward for voluntary testing for #Covid_19.”

The Covid Counselling Centres aka CCC will provide COVID-19 counseling, swab collection, medical examination, result reporting, shifting of positive cases to isolation centres and even will disseminate information regarding COVID-19. Here is the detailed list of the CCCs in your areas:

Meanwhile, due to the increase in the number of positive cases in Guwahati, the Kamrup (Metro) district administration has closed Beltola daily and the bi-weekly markets with immediate effect. Any violation of this order will attract penal action under the Disaster Management Act 2020.

As of now, Assam has a total of 2,400 active cases, 88 of which were detected just on Wednesday. Of these, 23 are from Kamrup (M), 20 from Sonitpur, 10 from Tinsukia, seven from Karimganj, five from Dibrugarh, four from Dhubri, three Kokrajhar, three from Kamrup (R), two from Biswanath, two from Nalbari and one from Dhemaji. The tally of total cases in the state has reached 6,370, of which 3,958 have recovered and nine persons have died so far.
