Tamenglong: In yet another exemplary gesture to fight against COVID-19 pandemic, residents of Tamenglong district in Manipur have come forward to raise a sum of approximately Rs 20.7 lakh through crowdfunding to procure a TrueNat machine within 24 hours.
The machine is the most essential equipment during this medical emergency and will be utilised for testing samples in addition to the already installed TrueNat machine provided by the state government.
The benchmark set by the people in Tamenglong district highlighted that the pandemic is a real time management turbulence and to address the unprecedented health crisis, it required a quick response from the public.
As per reports, with the amount raised by the public, the district administration has already placed an order for a TrueNat machine with four slots and 500 testing kits which can give at least 76 test results in a day.
Once the second TrueNat machine is installed and made functional, the sample testing capacity will be scaled up and will enable to clear the pending samples for testing, as per health officials.
At present, the district has at least over 200 samples pending and waiting for the results, and swab yet to be collected from at least 30 inmates at quarantine centres, it said.
Tamenglong, which is located at a distance of over 150 km from Imphal, remains with the highest number of COVID-19 positive cases in the state with 105 people, all returnees from other states, followed by Churachandpur with 103 cases.
As per officials, bad road condition, especially during the raining season, is one of the main hindrances while transporting the swabs being collected from the inmates for testing at JNIMS and RIMS in Imphal.
However, the new TrueNat machine will load off the burden and ensure testing of samples are done on time.
In total, Tamenglong has recorded at least 4,127 returnees from other states, in which 1,015 persons are currently at home quarantine and another 311 persons at community quarantine centres.
