The total number of COVID-19 cases in Manipur now stands at total 777

Imphal: In an alarming situation in Manipur, another 96 returnees from other states and quarantined at various quarantine centres tested positive for COVID-19 on Saturday, the highest tally recorded in a single day in the state.

A total of 46 samples were tested positive at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and 50 samples at VRDL at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).

Now, the total confirmed cases of the virus in the state rose to 777 and active cases stand at 545, respectively.

According to the COVID-19 Common Control Room data, of the 96 fresh cases — 64 male and 32 female, 31 are from Tamenglong, 22 from Kangpokpi, 13 from Bishnupur, 12 from Senapati, six from Kamjong, five from Kakching, four from Ukhrul, two from Imphal East and one from Tengnoupal district.

Meanwhile, another 14 persons who were undergoing treatment at JNIMS and RIMS were discharged after they were found COVID-19 free on RT PCR test. Now, a total of recovered cases is 232. The recovery rate is 29.85 per cent.

According to additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, health facilities with isolation bed and ventilators for COVID-19 treatment are now provided at district headquarters hospitals, including Mao and Moreh town.

At present, a total number of ventilators are available in the state is 48.
