The arrested individuals along with recovered contraband items have been handed over to Moreh police station

Imphal: Troops of Tengnoupal battalion and Moreh police jointly carried out search operation in three separate missions and recovered huge quantity of smuggled contraband and high valued medicines in Manipur’s Tengnoupal. Two persons have been arrested in connection with illegal possession of drugs and smuggled medicines.

In the first instance, a team of Moreh battalion in Tengnoupal district on Friday arrested one person identified as Sonkhpao Vaiphei of Lhangjol village. On thorough search, the team recovered brown sugar and WIY tablets approximately weighing 871 grams worth crore in the international market.

Meanwhile, troops of Moreh Battalion of Pallel sector under the aegis of HQ IGAR (south) along with Moreh police recovered huge quantity of high valued medicines worth crore from a vehicle at the border town of Moreh in Tengnoupal district.

The joint search team carried out the operation based on specific inputs on smuggling of illegal medicine items along integrated check post at the border town and recovered the items on June 18.

Similarly, on the same day, troops of Tengnoupal battalion recovered huge quantity of contraband items near Kwatha junction in Tengnoupal.

An individual identified as K Letkhopao Baite of Tengnoupal Bazaar was arrested along with 9,500 packets of smuggled cigarettes and yongchak seeds (parkia speciosa) in 19 sacks in a vehicle.

The arrested individuals along with recovered contraband items have been handed over to Moreh police station and preventive customs in Moreh.
