Imphal: The mortal remains of late Sepoy Lungambui Abonmei arrived at Imphal in Manipur around 2 pm from Guwahati on Monday afternoon.

He was given a gun salute at the Imphal Airport.

According to reports, the mortal remains of sepoy Abonmei, who belongs to Alang village in Tamenglong district, will be taken to his native place for the last rites.

The Manipur jawan, late Sepoy Abonmei of 10 Assam Regiment, made the supreme sacrifice in the line of duty during unprovoked ceasefire violation by Pakistani troops along the Line of Control (LoC) in Poonch district of Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday.

As per reports, the 29-year-old Abonmei was critically injured and succumbed to his wounds on Sunday morning.

The two other soldiers identified as Lienkhothien Senghon and Tangsoik Kwianiungar were also injured in the firing and later airlifted to the military hospital at Udhampur, it said.

Sepoy Abonmei is survived by his wife and a two-year-old son.

Earlier, chief minister N Biren Singh and Governor Najma Heptulla condoled the death of the Indian Army jawan and expressed condolences to the grief family members and relatives.
