Kohima: Expressing discontentment in regard to the returnees flouting rules and regulations at the institutional quarantine centres, the Angami Youth Organisation (AYO) has appealed the Nagaland government to initiate strict action against such defaulters.
Through a press note, AYO president Kekhrie Pfukha and general secretary Visako Rino said that the tribal youth body is appalled by the “lack of discipline among many returnees who are blatantly flouting rules and regulations of quarantine facilities risking the lives of other returnees and frontline workers”.
It strongly condemned the “immoral activities among some returnees in quarantine facilities” and the “disrespectful gestures of some returnees shown towards frontline workers”. It therefore appealed all returnees to strictly follow the rules and regulations and show restrain and appreciation.
“Strict punishment [must] be meted out to irresponsible and indisciplined returnees flouting rules and regulations risking the lives of others,” it appealed to the state government.
It warned that in the event of such irresponsible behavior of returnees leading to spread of disease in its jurisdiction, the AYO wil resort to taking its own course of action against such individuals.

It said that it is “pained to notice that instead of extending a concerted support to these warriors, certain sections of the Naga society have resorted to divisive tactics by vilifying a specific tribe and a village for its stand which was totally in line with Government guidelines” and affirmed that it is strongly against any divisive element that can derail the fight against this fresh pandemic.
Further, AYO emphasized on the need to use social media responsibly, saying that it is “saddened” to see social media platforms “inundated by divisive, communal, hateful and tribalistic agendas poisoning the innocent minds of the future generation” which threaten to disintegrate the Naga society. It appealed all to desist from sharing fake news, communal agendas and to extend a collective healing hand to our people.
Furthermore, it acknowledged the various churches, charitable individuals and NGOs who have come forward in lending valuable support to frontline workers serving as beacons of hope.
