Imphal: Another nine persons tested positive for COVID-19 positive in Manipur on Sunday. With this, the total cases of novel coronavirus in the state has shot up to 458, including 367 active cases.
A total of 91 patients have recovered and discharged from the hospitals.
Of the nine new cases, five samples were tested positive for COVID-19 at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) in Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS) and the remaining four at VRDL in Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS), said additional health director Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang.
They have been shifted to COVID-19 care facilities in Imphal for further observation, he said.
Dr Mangang also pointed out that elderly people, especially those with health issues, are more vulnerable to the complications of COVID-19.
Those people need special care and protection, especially during this medical emergency crisis.
The official also urged all those COVID-19 exposed or confirmed persons to restrain from going near them without medical masks or serve them without sanitising hands.
Dr Mangang also informed that the outreach team initiated by the state health department has been visiting old age homes at various places, including Mongsangei and Phayeng in Imphal West, Bashikhong and Kongba in Imphal East, Wangbal and Heirok in Thoubal, Kumbi in Bishnupur and Thangjao in Kakching.
