Guwahati: In an unexpected news, Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput committed suicide at his Mumbai residence on Sunday, say reports.
The reason for his drastic step is not yet known.
The 34-year-old actor was last seen in Chhichhore, a much-appreciated movie based on friendship and life. He rose to fame with his role as Indian skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni in the film M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story.
The news comes just a few days after his ex-manager Disha Salian died after falling off a high-rise in Mumbai’s Malad on June 8 night. She was 28. Disha was also actor Varun Dhawan's ex-manager and had also worked with Aishwarya Rai Bachchan, and comedienne Bharti Singh.
While initially it was reported that the former celebrity manager had committed suicide, the Malvani police have registered a case of accidental death.
Moments after the news was out, reactions started pouring in on social media.
Actor Akshay Kumar tweeted: "Honestly this news has left me shocked and speechless...I remember watching #SushantSinghRajput in Chhichhore and telling my friend Sajid, its producer how much I’d enjoyed the film and wish I’d been a part of it. Such a talented actor...may God give strength to his family."
Actor Ajay Devgn said: "The news of Sushant Singh Rajput’s death is truly sad. What a tragic loss. Deepest condolences to his family & loved ones. May his soul find eternal peace."
Actor Vivek Oberoi tweeted: "At a loss of words. Extremely tragic and upsetting to hear. We will all miss you immensely. My heart goes out to his family and loved ones. May his soul rest in peace."
Rajput started his career with TV serials, his debut Star Plus' Kis Desh Mein Hai Meraa Dil (2008), followed by Zee TV's Pavitra Rishta (2009–11).
The actor made his film debut in Kai Po Che! (2013), for which he received a nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Male Debut. He then starred in Shuddh Desi Romance (2013) and as the titular detective in Detective Byomkesh Bakshy! (2015).
Rajput's highest-grossing releases came with a supporting role in the satire PK (2014), followed by M.S. Dhoni: The Untold Story (2016). He received his first nomination for Filmfare Award for Best Actor for M.S. Dhoni. He also starred in commercially successful films such as Kedarnath (2018) and Chhichhore (2019).
