37 more returnees from Delhi, Mumbai and Uttar Pradesh tested positive for COVID-19 in Manipur on Sunday night

Imphal: Another 37 persons, including 26 Delhi returnees, tested positive for novel coronavirus on Sunday night. Total confirmed cases in Manipur stands at 209 and active cases have increased to 157.

A total of 52 persons have already recovered from the virus and discharged from the hospitals.

According to additional health director, Dr K Sasheekumar Mangang, 22 samples were tested at Virus Research and Diagnostic Laboratories (VRDL) at Regional Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS) and the remaining 15 at Jawaharlal Nehru Institute of Medical Sciences (JNIMS).

Of the 37 latest cases, 13 are from Imphal West, 12 from Churachandpur, five from Kamjong, two each from Kakching, Bishnupur and Tengnoupal, and the remaining one from Ukhrul districts.

As far as their travel histories are concerned, 26 are Delhi returnees by train, another nine from Mumbai and two from Uttar Pradesh. They will be shifted to COVID-19 Care facilities at RIMS and JNIMS for further treatment.

Since all the fresh COVID-19 cases have a travel history, various preventive measures like contact tracing etc are being conducted by district authorities, Dr Mangang said.
