KOKRAJHAR: The All Bodo Students Union (ABSU) has opposed the state government proposal to make Assamese language compulsory in schools from class I to X across the state.
The leading students’ body in the Bodoland Territorial Region (BTR) has urged the state education minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to make exemption to the Bodo medium schools from the purview of the proposal in the state.
Speaking to reporters here at Bodofa House, ABSU assistant general secretary Kwrwmdao Wary and education secretary Kastom Basumatary opposed the state government proposal.
The students’ body has also demanded the state government to fill up the vacancies of teachers in the Bodo medium schools in the area.
The ABSU leaders have also announced that 10 students from Bodo medium schools across the state have been selected for the 15th Kamal Kumar Brahma Derhasat Award -2020. The students union has been conferring the award every year since 2006.
