Agartala: After Border Security Force (BSF) and Tripura State Rifles (TSR), the military station of the Indian Army in Lichubagan area under West Tripura district has now reported its first COVID-19 case.
A 55-year-old Colonel-rank Army officer was among the 25 samples which tested positive for coronavirus in Tripura on Thursday.
The Army officer had returned to the state in an Indigo flight and his sample was collected upon his arrival at the Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Agartala by health workers.
A total of 875 samples were tested on Thursday; among them, 25 persons tested positive for COVID-19.
Chief minister Biplab Kumar Deb took to Twitter to inform this development, “Alert ~ Today in Tripura 25 people found COVID-19 #POSITIVE out of 875 samples tested. All of them have travel history.
Stay safe! #TripuraCOVID19Count”
Among the 25 samples, seven people who returned by flight tested positive including a BSF official from the 3rd battalion at 82 Mile, Nalkata.
Earlier, around 163 cases were reported from three BSF battalions including one person from the border out post under the 3rd battalion.
Eight persons who were under home quarantine had also tested positive, so did six returnees from Chennai, two from Bangalore, one having contact with previous confirmed case. It also included one person having no travel history and one from Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh.
Currently, Tripura has 470 active COVID-19 cases, most of them are being treated at COVID care centre and some of them are in COVID-19 hospital at GB Pant hospital, while 173 of them have been discharged after recovery.
A total of 35,254 persons were placed under surveillance, out of which 21,480 persons were released after completion of 14 days’ observation period. While there are 507 persons in facility quarantine while 13,267 persons in-home quarantine as on Wednesday.
On Thursday, over thousand samples were collected from across the state and 850 samples including samples of those who returned from other parts. A total of 33,378 samples have been collected of which 30,379 samples have been tested.
