Agartala: A 50-year-old woman who allegedly committed suicide on Tuesday in the laboratory Gobind Ballabh Pant hospital has tested positive for coronavirus.
Speaking with reporters, SK Rakesh additional chief secretary said that the woman was admitted on Monday in the flu ward of GBP hospital and her samples were collected for test.
“The body of the 50-year-old was found hanging in the laboratory of the hospital at 5 am in the morning, while at 11 am her samples tested positive for COVID-19”, Rakesh said.
He also said that the deceased was suffering from chronic kidney disease, cough and cold.
The woman was a resident of Matinagar village under Amtali police station in West Tripura district.
“The mother of the deceased was at the hospital on Monday night, but in the morning she did not missing from her bed. When the mother started searching for her daughter, she found her daughter’s body hanging in the laboratory”, a police official informed.
“She must have committed suicide due to fear and panic of testing COVID-19 positive. The body of the deceased was sent for autopsy and a case of unnatural death was also registered”, the official said.
Presently Tripura has 145 active COVID-19 cases, among them 142 are being treated at COVID care centre and one in COVID-19 hospital at GB Pant hospital, while 173 of them have discharged after recovery, while state has 7,069 tests per million.
A total of 33, 235 persons were placed under surveillance, out of which 20,152 persons were released after completion of 14 days’ observation period. While there are 464 persons in facility quarantine while 12,619 persons in-home quarantine as on Monday.
A total of 30,008 samples have been collected of which 28,218 samples have been tested.
