The Indigo Airlines flight landed in Agartala at 10 am and returned to Kolkata at 11:15 am from Agartala

Agartala: Four days after flight services resumed in amid the coronavirus pandemic, the first aircraft with 166 passengers from Kolkata landed in Maharaja Bir Bikram (MBB) Airport in Tripura on Friday.

Speaking with reporters, MBB Airport director VK Seth said that the first domestic flight with 166 passengers landed in Agartala, while around 167 persons departed for Kolkata in the same flight.

He also said that the airport authorities have made full arrangement and full-proof medical screening apparatus to check all the incoming and outgoing passengers.

“As the flight operations are about to resume, sanitization, disinfection and cleaning is being done across the premises round the clock. We are hopeful that full all flights operations will start soon,” Seth said.

He also said that from June 1 more flight services are likely to resume post lockdown. The airlines are also providing face shields as a precautionary measure from their end.

“The web check-in is the need of the hour at this moment to avert the physical contact. If anybody does not carry a face mask, one can collect it through the terminal manager,” Seth added.

The Indigo Airlines flight landed in Agartala at 10 am and returned to Kolkata at 11:15 am from Agartala.

Earlier on May 25, even though flight services began in other airports, due to the cyclone Amphan, Kolkata’s Netaji Subhash Chandra International Airport sustained damages for which it could not operate any flights till May 28. Agartala Airport too did not have any operations since all flights moving to and from Agartala are routed through Kolkata.

Tripura had received approval for six flights from the ministry of civil aviation and that include four flights on the Agartala- Kolkata, Guwahati-Agartala-Kolkata and Bangalore-Kolkata-Agartala routes.
